Indian players to watch out for CWG Women’s T20 Cricket

Cricket is back at the Commonwealth Games which is to be held at Birmingham in England. This will be the first time Women’s cricket is played at the commonwealth games and the excitement is high and the England public is very fortunate to watch this spectacle. Here is a look at the Indian players to watch out for at the mega event.

Smriti Mandhana

The Left-handed opening batter has been a prolific run scorer for India since the Women’s ODI World Cup in 2017. The batter when in full flow is a treat to watch. She is a good player on both sides of the wicket.

She has played 87 matches in Women’s T20I’s and has scored 2033 runs at a strike rate of 120.15 and at an average of 25.73. Mandhana has scored 14 half centuries so far in Women’s T20I’s.

Deepti Sharma

The all-rounder has been a find in Indian Women’s Cricket and she has batted in the middle order and is one of the regulars in the side. Deepti Sharma is also very effective with her off-spin and is able to pick up vital wickets while bowling.

She has played 61 matches in Women’s T20I cricket scoring 520 runs at an average of 21.66 and at a strike rate of 92.03. She has got the highest score of 49 so far. She will be very vital at the CWG for India.

Jemimah Rodrigues

The stylish right-handed batter was off the boil but came back storming into the Indian squad on the back of an amazing season for the Northern Superchargers in the 100-ball tournament in England in 2021.

She has played in 21 T20I Women’s matches so far and she likes to hit along the ground. She has scored 394 runs at an average of 19.70 and at a strike rate of 67.76. She will play the anchor role for the national side and will be an important member for the team.

Shafali Varma

The attacking top order batter was spotted in the women’s T20 challenge and since then there was no looking back for her. She has changed the Indian Team’s batting dynamic and there are shades of Virender Shewag in her.

The Indian Women’s team will depend on her to provide good starts for the team which will be very important in the Commonwealth Games. She has scored 753 runs in 32 matches at an average of 24.29 and a strike rate of 139.18 and she has also got 3 fifties till now in Women’s T20I’s.

Harmanpreet Kaur

Harmanpreet Kaur is famous for her big six hitting abilities and is the captain of the team. Her bat has earned the nickname of Thor’s hammer and she can also bowl and pick important wickets with her off-spin.

Her all-rounded ability makes her a force to reckon with. If the national side is to go all the way in the games then Harmanpreet Kaur needs to have a stand-out tournament. She has scored 2411 runs in 124 matches at an average of 27.08  and has 4 fifty’s and 1 hundred in a great T20I career so far.
